Did you know that you can follow my new endeavor, Genealogy In Action, on Facebook? This Facebook page is where I will share news about Genealogy In Action and any product releases, as well as genealogy news. Each week, I also encourage you to share your genealogy accomplishments for the past week and declare goals for the following week. You may recall from a post in March that I was planning a series of educational genealogy books. Well, the first one (on using digital books for genealogy) will come out in Winter 2020/2021. Woohoo! BUT, I’ve also decided to develop digital courses—the first one will focus on research planning and will be released later this year. Yahoo!!

On Thursday, I announced that I was officially relaunching my business, with a slightly different focus and a new name, Brass Oak Genealogy. Part of my business plan is to continue to provide value to fellow genealogists through blogging, providing information items (guides, templates, etc.), and writing a monthly newsletter. I have a ton of ideas, tips, and strategies I want to share with you!

The Western Michigan Genealogical Society 2020 Writing Contest kicked off on January 1, 2020 and will run through March 31, 2020. You do not have to be a WMGS member to enter and there is no entry fee. Entries must be 1,500 to 3,000 words, unpublished, and relate to the theme “A Memorable Trip or Journey.”

  Entries for the 2019 & 2020 International Society of Family History Writers and Editors (ISFHWE) Excellence-in-Writing Competition are now being accepted. Submissions are due by March 15, 2020. Both ISFHWE members and non-members are allowed to enter the competition. A discounted entry fee is available to members.  Here are the categories for this year:

The Connecticut Society of Genealogists is now accepting entries for both the Essay Contest and Literary Awards. Submission deadline for both is July 15, 2019. Winners for both will be notified by September 1, 2019.  Details for each are below. 8th Annual “Tell Me Your Family Story” Essay Contest This contest is open to anyone; winner receives $100.
