In 2019 the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa is celebrating their 25th anniversary. To commemorate the event they are holding a Family History Writing Competition. BIFHSGO members are encouraged to write a story related to their British Isles family and submit it to the competition. It’s been a long time coming. I’ve wanted to revamp my list of genealogical mysteries to make it a bit more user-friendly, and it sorely needed to be updated (it’s been over a year!). So I’ve reorganized the list and added new finds. Moving forward, I will also include historical mysteries that might also be of interest to genealogists (and mystery fans). Don’t forget, entries for this year’s National Genealogical Society’s Family History Writing Contest are due by December 15, 2018.  This annual contest is open to NGS members. The winner receives a trip to the next NGS conference and their manuscript may be published in the NGS Quarterly. This competition is a BIG DEAL so don’t delay! All the details can be found here. The annual writing competition for the Ohio Genealogical Society kicked off earlier this month and will run through December 31, 2018. Both OGS members and non-members are able to compete. Only unpublished entries are eligible. Each of the winning articles will be considered for publication in either the Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly or the Ohio Genealogical Society News. Wow! It’s been 10 years since I started my genealogy blogging journey. In some ways it seems longer, in other ways it seems like I started yesterday. The last few years have landed me on a bumpy road, but I am thankful that my readers stick with me…it means a lot! Entries for the 2018 Massachusetts Society of Genealogists (MSOG) Writing Contest are due by August 1, 2018. Anyone may enter, but if you are not an MSOG member, there is a $10 submission fee. Entries must be original content (i.e., not previously published) and relate to Massachusetts genealogy or family history. “Entries may be a family study, tell an interesting story, or provide a solution to a genealogical problem.” Sources must be cited.
