Tomorrow, October 1, 2020, the Federation of Genealogical Societies will officially merge with the National Genealogical Society.
I’m happy about the merger, and hope that the “new NGS” will keep the mission of FGS alive and well.
The bummer is, I will no longer serve as the managing editor for FGS’s FORUM magazine. I am a little sad because I have enjoyed the last five years working with so many wonderful people, and don’t want to see it end. I’m thrilled that FGS took a chance on me back in 2015, and that I got the chance to serve the genealogy community in this manner.
For fun, I thought I’d pull together some numbers (what genealogist doesn’t love data?!), just to see what in the world I have done over the last 5 years. Let’s have a look:
- # of issues produced = 19
- # of feature articles edited = 113
- # of column articles edited = 118
- # of reviews edited = 161
- # of authors worked with = 73
- # of reviewers worked with = 10 (3 were also article authors)
- # of books I read/reviewed = 27
Wow! I had the honor to personally work with more than 70 different authors/reviewers, and I edited nearly 400 submissions. I had absolutely no idea.
Sad that it’s come to an end, but it’s been my pleasure.
Julie – you’ve done an amazing job as managing editor of FGS Forum and we in the genealogy community are honored to have worked with you!
Thanks, Taneya! You were a part of my very first issue and I will always be grateful for such a wonderful article in a pinch.
