{"id":758,"date":"2010-03-07T16:45:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-07T22:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/my-genealogical-maturity\/"},"modified":"2013-07-10T18:59:42","modified_gmt":"2013-07-10T23:59:42","slug":"my-genealogical-maturity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/my-genealogical-maturity\/","title":{"rendered":"My Genealogical Maturity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I came across a post yesterday at <a href=\"http:\/\/ancestryinsider.blogspot.com\/\">The Ancestry Insider<\/a>, entitled, <a href=\"http:\/\/ancestryinsider.blogspot.com\/2010\/03\/rate-your-genealogical-maturity.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+AncestryInsider+%28The+Ancestry+Insider%29&amp;utm_content=Bloglines\">Rate Your Genealogical Maturity<\/a>.\u00a0 Since I\u2019ve only been doing this for a few years, I thought I\u2019d take the \u201ctest\u201d and see how I rate.\u00a0 Here are my results:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sources<\/strong> \u2013 Right now I\u2019d rate myself as <strong>Practicing<\/strong>: \u201c Uses a limited number of record types and repositories. Mostly relies on online and microfilmed sources.\u201d\u00a0 Although I am starting to branch out in to more record types and repositories.\u00a0 Score = 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citations<\/strong> \u2013 For this, I\u2019m <strong>Proficient<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u201cGives complete and accurate source citations including provenance and quality assessment.\u201d\u00a0 Score = 4<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information<\/strong> \u2013 I\u2019m between <strong>Practicing<\/strong> and <strong>Proficient<\/strong>.\u00a0 Practicing:\u00a0 \u201cJudges information by source type, informant knowledge, and record timing. Applies &#8220;primary\/secondary&#8221; to information instead of sources.\u201d\u00a0 Proficient:\u00a0 \u201cAdditionally, learns history necessary to recognize and evaluate all explicit information in a source.\u201d\u00a0 Score =3.5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Evidence<\/strong> \u2013 For this I\u2019d have to say <strong>Stellar<\/strong>, which is capturing both direct and indirect evidence whether in support or conflict.\u00a0 Score = 5<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusions<\/strong> \u2013 Right now, I\u2019d have to say <strong>Practicing<\/strong> (although I aspire to Stellar), which is:\u00a0 \u201cLearning to evaluate the quality of sources, information, and evidence. Emerging ability to resolve minor discrepancies.\u00a0 Additionally, resolves conflicting evidence or uses it to disprove prevalent opinion. Usually applies correct identity to persons mentioned in sources.\u201d\u00a0 Score = 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conclusion Trees<\/strong> \u2013 This would be <strong>Practicing<\/strong>:\u00a0 \u201cNever merges entire compiled genealogies into own tree.
