{"id":679,"date":"2010-08-09T15:10:00","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T20:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/genealogy-writing-contest-for-illinois-youth\/"},"modified":"2013-07-07T16:19:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-07T21:19:00","slug":"genealogy-writing-contest-for-illinois-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/genealogy-writing-contest-for-illinois-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"Genealogy Writing Contest for Illinois Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hot off the press this afternoon is the following press release from <strong>Illinois State Genealogical Society<\/strong> announcing a genealogy writing contest open to Illinois students ages 12-15.\u00a0 Be sure to pass this along to anyone you know who is eligible to participate.\u00a0 Keep in mind that the deadline is <strong>September 20, 2010<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p>August 9, 2010 \u2013 Springfield, IL.\u00a0 As the interest in genealogy and family history continues to increase across the United States, all Illinois students ages 12-15 are encouraged to participate in an upcoming essay contest sponsored by the Illinois State Genealogical Society (ISGS).<\/p>\n<p>As part of its <strong>Fall 2010 Conference to be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Peoria, IL<\/strong>, ISGS is providing an opportunity for Illinois youth to tell the stories of their ancestors.<\/p>\n<p>The essay format:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>narrative; 2-page maximum; no cover page or back matter<\/li>\n<li>send the entry form (in the attached link) with the essay; do not put entrant&#8217;s name on the essay<\/li>\n<li>word-processed final draft on standard, white print paper<\/li>\n<li>12 pt. Times New Roman font, double-spaced<\/li>\n<li>entries must be postmarked no later than September 20, 2010<\/li>\n<li>no e-mail entries accepted<\/li>\n<li>choose one of the following topics:\n<ul>\n<li>The Story of My Family Connection to (Historical Event)<\/li>\n<li>Why My Family Settled in (Geographic Area)<\/li>\n<li>The Immigration Story of My (Ancestor)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Prizes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First prize, $50<\/li>\n<li>Honorable mentions (two), $25 each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The deadline for entries is <strong>September 20, 2010<\/strong>.
