{"id":602,"date":"2011-08-13T12:42:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-13T17:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/can-you-spare-a-dime\/"},"modified":"2013-07-06T19:34:40","modified_gmt":"2013-07-07T00:34:40","slug":"can-you-spare-a-dime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/can-you-spare-a-dime\/","title":{"rendered":"Can You Spare a Dime?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-ziNySX4PWiA\/Tka3lihIJII\/AAAAAAAAF20\/DUhPotvF_6s\/MP900438855%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"202\" height=\"136\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/> Back in April I wrote <a title=\"Are You Up for the Challenge?\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/are-you-up-for-the-challenge\/\">Are You Up for the Challenge?<\/a> discussing the project that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fgs.org\/\">FGS<\/a> is working on to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fgs.org\/1812\/\">digitize the War of 1812 pension files<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In that post I reported that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indgensoc.org\/\">Indiana Genealogical Society<\/a> stated a matching program where they will match contributions they collect up to $10,000.\u00a0 I am happy to report that as of today, they have raised <strong>$9,700, just $300 shy of their goal<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>IGS hopes to meet their $10,000 goal by August 31st, so if you have even just a few dollars to contribute to this worthy project, please head over to their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indgensoc.org\/projects\/1812_pensions.php\">website and make a contribution<\/a>.\u00a0 Not only will they match your contribution, Ancestry has also agreed to match all the donations, essentially quadrupling your contribution.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, this digitization project aims to have the pension files available for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">free<\/span> on <a href=\"http:\/\/footnote.com\/\">Footnote<\/a>.\u00a0 And although they plan to have the digitization complete in 2015, they are busy working to get the files scanned and uploaded as they go\u2026as of today there are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.footnote.com\/title_761\/war_of_1812_pension_files\/\">58,021 images available<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>UPDATE 9\/1\/11<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 It\u2019s official\u2026IGS raised $12,117 for the project, all of which will be matched by both IGS and Ancestry.\u00a0 You can read more <a href=\"http:\/\/indgensoc.blogspot.com\/2011\/09\/igs-raises-12117-for-war-of-1812-10000.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in April I wrote Are You Up for the Challenge? discussing the project that FGS is working on to digitize the War of 1812 pension files.
