{"id":5498,"date":"2015-12-31T19:38:44","date_gmt":"2016-01-01T01:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/?p=5498"},"modified":"2015-12-31T19:38:44","modified_gmt":"2016-01-01T01:38:44","slug":"2015-achievements-2016-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/2015-achievements-2016-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"2015 Achievements \/ 2016 Goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"ID-10026029\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; float: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"ID-10026029\" src=\"http:\/\/julietarr.com\/genealogy\/blog\/images\/ab911f3c4d0b_10765\/ID-10026029.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"390\"><\/p>\n<p>Despite the craziness of 2015, I did manage to accomplish all of the <a href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/2014-achievements-2015-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\">goals I set for the year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>First, I wanted to publish at least two articles, beyond a \u201cpart 2\u201d article that was to be published earlier in the year.&nbsp; I only managed to publish an additional article for a total of two, and given the year I\u2019ve had, I\u2019m considering this goal satisfied.&nbsp; Here are the two articles I had published this year<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cEducational Opportunities in Genealogy: Part 2,\u201d published in the Jan-Mar 2015 issue of <em>NGS Magazine<\/em> (National Genealogical Society).<\/li>\n<li>\u201cInfiltrate the Web Using Public Profiles,\u201d published in the December 2015 issue of&nbsp; <em>APG Quarterly.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Second, I did attend my first NGS conference in May as planned.&nbsp; Had a good time catching up with genealogy friends and of course I learned a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Third, I wanted to reevaluate my business and my goals and figure out a plan of action accordingly.&nbsp; While I didn\u2019t quite finish this, at least formally, I did make a few decisions and am working out the details to ensure success.<\/p>\n<p>For once, I actually accomplished (for the most part) all of the goals I set for the year.&nbsp; In addition, I was able to make some progress on my stepfather\u2019s DNA\/adoption project, and in bigger news, in May (during the NGS conference) I was named the managing editor of <em>FORUM<\/em>, the quarterly magazine of the Federation of Genealogical Societies.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>I have to admit, although I had some good things happen in 2015, tragedy struck across family and friends way too many times, so I\u2019m looking forward to saying goodbye to 2015 and ushering in 2016.&nbsp; Because of all the things I\u2019ve gone through this year, I\u2019ve been in a constant state of reevaluating my priorities, and because of this, I\u2019ve only set one goal for 2016\u2014get back to my own genealogy research.&nbsp; I have so many open-ended projects that have been on the back burner for years and it\u2019s time to move some of them to the front burner and get them off the stove.<\/p>\n<p>Best wishes for a wonderful 2016!<\/p>\n<p><em>Image courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedigitalphotos.net\/images\/view_photog.php?photogid=1758\" target=\"_blank\">Rawich<\/a><\/em><em><\/em><em> via <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedigitalphotos.net\" target=\"_blank\">FreeDigitalPhotos.net<\/a><em><\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the craziness of 2015, I did manage to accomplish all of the goals I set for the year.
