gReader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reading genealogy blogs is important to me.\u00a0 I find all sorts of useful information, such as genealogy news, research tips, useful resources, and interesting family stories.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px;\" title=\"Kindle-greader\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-MEg2HEIf8_4\/T4PWPvQbj6I\/AAAAAAAAGS4\/v79dnoikAic\/Kindlegreader6.jpg?imgmax=800\" alt=\"Kindle-greader\" width=\"227\" height=\"386\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/>For the last year or so, I was finding it very difficult keeping up with all the genealogy blogs I follow.\u00a0 It was a combination of a lack of time and the fact that I don&#8217;t like to sit in front of my computer and read.\u00a0 I&#8217;d fall months behind and was missing a lot of useful information.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve since found a solution and am now able to stay on top of all the blogs I follow, including non-genealogy blogs.<\/p>\n<p>I added the app <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B006DRVFRQ\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B006DRVFRQ&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=julsgenhishub-20&amp;linkId=RB3ILCRABAXKHU6\">gReader<\/a> (for Android, free), which seamlessly syncs with my web-based Google Reader.\u00a0 I can do everything in this app that I can do in Google Reader, including starring, tagging, and sharing.\u00a0 I can also modify subscriptions, rename folders, and subscribe to new feeds.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>UPDATE:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 As of July 2012, Google Reader is no longer in existence.\u00a0 However, the gReader app does work with the reader <a href=\"http:\/\/feedly.com\" target=\"_blank\">Feedly<\/a>, which many people switched to after the demise of Google Reader.\u00a0 While Feedly has its own mobile app, after several weeks of using it, I found that I preferred gReader for its ease of use, user interface, and features.<\/p>\n<p>This particular app appealed to me because the <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.google.android.apps.reader&amp;hl=en\">Google Reader<\/a> app (by Google) was not available for Kindle Fire (it still isn\u2019t as of this posting) and gReader had the best reviews relative to what I was looking for.\u00a0 I\u2019m very satisfied with it.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had no problems syncing and I like the interface (I actually prefer it over Google Reader on the web).\u00a0 There are several ways to customize the interface to make it operate to your particular preferences (e.g. arranging the order of the feed).<\/p>\n<p>A quick note about posts that show up as either title-only or preview-only.\u00a0 In order to view the entire post, you need to switch to the \u201cweb\u201d view.\u00a0 This is found in the top right corner of the gReader screen.\u00a0 Below is an example of the \u201cfeed\u201d view (left) and the \u201cweb\u201d view (right) of the same post.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Kindle-greader-web\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-gsGQXeJSfYY\/T4PWP8oyCQI\/AAAAAAAAGTA\/yOabvlwBFbs\/Kindlegreaderweb4.jpg?imgmax=800\" alt=\"Kindle-greader-web\" width=\"202\" height=\"343\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Kindle-greader-web1\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/-OUGkb3SFz-I\/T4PWQcHX1rI\/AAAAAAAAGTI\/13xh3yOtolk\/Kindlegreaderweb16.jpg?imgmax=800\" alt=\"Kindle-greader-web1\" width=\"202\" height=\"343\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can read blog posts periodically throughout the day if I choose, or once a day, usually in the evening before bed.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t believe how much this simple tool has helped me stay up-to-date on my blog reading.\u00a0 If you have an Android device, I highly recommend you give gReader a try.<\/p>\n<p>Do you use gReader or another RSS reader app on your phone or tablet?\u00a0 What do you use and why do you like it?\u00a0 Leave a comment and let me know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>See also:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Using the Kindle Fire for Genealogy \u2013 Introduction\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/using-the-kindle-fire-for-genealogy-introduction\/\">Using the Kindle Fire for Genealogy \u2013 Introduction<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Using the Kindle Fire for Genealogy \u2013 Families\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/using-the-kindle-fire-for-genealogy-families\/\">Using the Kindle Fire for Genealogy \u2013 Families<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Using the Kindle Fire for Genealogy \u2013 Evernote\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/using-the-kindle-fire-for-genealogy-evernote\/\">Using the Kindle Fire for Genealogy &#8211;
