{"id":480,"date":"2012-07-04T10:36:00","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T15:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/take-2-my-revolutionary-war-patriots\/"},"modified":"2013-07-04T15:58:24","modified_gmt":"2013-07-04T20:58:24","slug":"take-2-my-revolutionary-war-patriots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/take-2-my-revolutionary-war-patriots\/","title":{"rendered":"Take 2 \u2013 My Revolutionary War Patriots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This post first appeared on this blog on July 3, 2010.\u00a0 It has been slightly modified.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0px none;\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/-BTV3XWGlnMs\/T_O9dOwxi1I\/AAAAAAAAGiY\/0ql6qI0-sDQ\/1776%25255B8%25255D%25255B1%25255D%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800\" width=\"218\" height=\"336\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In honor of Independence Day, I thought I\u2019d write a post about my ancestors who are Revolutionary War patriots.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert Parks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Robert PARKS<\/strong> is the patriot I went in under for membership to <a href=\"http:\/\/dar.org\/\">National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).<\/a>\u00a0 His service is listed as a private serving under Captain Benager Leffingwell.\u00a0 Robert is my sixth great-grandfather.\u00a0 He was born 4 December 1737 in Voluntown, Connecticut and died in 1810 in Windham, Connecticut.\u00a0 Following is my direct line to him (in bold):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Me<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Joseph CAHILL<\/strong> (1945-1989), m. Jean MILLER (living)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joan Garrison McMAHON<\/strong> (1927-1980), m. John Francis CAHILL (1922-1984)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emma Jane GARRISON<\/strong> (1901-1970), m. John Ward McMAHON (1902-1962)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sarah Jane MULLIGAN<\/strong> (1870-1947), m. James Manly GARRISON (1861-1909)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sarah Norton WEBSTER<\/strong> (1828-1894), m. James MULLIGAN (1812-1879)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Betsey PARKS<\/strong> (1801-1856), m. Calvin Price WEBSTER (1802-1856)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robert PARKS<\/strong> (1776-1863), m. Mary \u201cPolly\u201d Wheeler SMITH (1781-1844)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Robert PARKS<\/strong> (1737-1810), m. Elizabeth HALL (?-?)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I\u2019m pretty sure that Robert\u2019s father, Joseph, is also a patriot.\u00a0 Even if he didn\u2019t serve, I\u2019m sure he contributed in some way that qualifies him as a patriot.\u00a0 Still working on this one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonathan Webster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonathan WEBSTER<\/strong> took the Oath of Fidelity in October 1777 at Glastonbury, Connecticut.\u00a0 Jonathan in my seventh great-grandfather.\u00a0 He was born 5 October 1705 in Hartford, Connecticut and died 14 November 1781 in Glastonbury.\u00a0 Following is my direct line to him (in bold):<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Me<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Joseph CAHILL<\/strong> (1945-1989), m. Mabel RISLEY (1718-1871)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Solomon Norton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Solomon NORTON<\/strong> is apparently my sixth great-grandfather, although I have not been able to prove this through actual records.\u00a0 According to NSDAR, he is a patriot, having served as a private under Captain Bostwick in New York.\u00a0 There are three members listed that have gone in under his supposed daughter Sarah, but again, I have not proven this connection through any records.\u00a0 By all accounts, Solomon was born 12 May 1751 in Farmington, Connecticut and died after 1837 probably in Villanova, New York.\u00a0 Following is my direct line to him (in bold), assuming Sarah is his daughter:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Me<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Joseph CAHILL<\/strong> (1945-1989), m.
