padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Colorado\" alt=\"Colorado\" src=\"http:\/\/julietarr.com\/genealogy\/blog\/images\/38be2af0a887_115E1\/Colorado.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"82\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2011, I wrote about a new development pertaining to the research of Philip Rottman in <a href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/and-all-the-stars-aligned\/\" target=\"_blank\">And all the Stars Aligned<\/a>.\u00a0 Basically, I discovered that there was some truth to a notation my grandmother made about Philip and a story my cousin Barbara was told, both of which led me to discover Philip\u2019s place of death in Golden, Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>In preparation for this post, I decided to revisit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org\" target=\"_blank\">Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection<\/a> website to see if any newspapers had been added or if I had previously missed something.\u00a0 I ended up finding the <em>Colorado Transcript<\/em> (Golden, Colorado) and did a page-by-page search (whether this newspaper was on the site in 2011, I have no idea, it may be that I previously missed it).\u00a0 I did find another article related to his death:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 340px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; <i>Colorado Transcript<\/i>, 1 July 1885, p. 3, col. 2; digital images, <i>Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection<\/i>\u00a0(http:\/\/www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org : accessed 12 September 2013).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The article didn\u2019t add much to what I already knew, but it got me thinking about looking for a coroner\u2019s inquest.\u00a0 Long story short, I found that some Jefferson County coroner\u2019s records for that time period are housed at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.colorado.gov\/dpa\/doit\/archives\/\" target=\"_blank\">Colorado State Archives<\/a>.\u00a0 Unfortunately, there appears to be no record for Philip.\u00a0 Fortunately, the <a href=\"http:\/\/accipiter.state.co.us\/archive\/publicrecordsearch.do\" target=\"_blank\">search<\/a> allows you to omit a name, so I searched on Coroner\u2019s Records (and subsequently Coroner\u2019s Inquest) that occurred in Jefferson County in 1885.\u00a0 No inquests, and only two categorized as Coroner\u2019s Records, neither of which was Philip.\u00a0 Since there were only two, and I can\u2019t seem to find a good record description for these two sets of records, I plan to check with the County Coroner\u2019s office to see if ALL of the records are housed at the Archives, or if the county still has them.<\/p>\n<p>I then noticed that the Archives also had probate records for Jefferson County, so I thought, heck why not, even though Philip lived in Iowa at the time of his death.\u00a0 I have not found a probate record for him where he resided, which is odd since I believe he owned land and possibly a business when he died.\u00a0 So, shot in the dark here, I search for Rottman, Rottmann, Rotman, yaddy-yadda, and nothing.\u00a0 I almost gave up and thought, why not pull all 1885 probate cases for Jefferson County, like I did for the coroner\u2019s records\/inquests.\u00a0 And there on the list, was an entry that made perfect sense:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none;
