Instead of working on those distant families, I wanted to see what types of online collections were available.&nbsp; For those with Minneapolis ties, you\u2019re in luck.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hclib.org\/pub\/search\/specialcollections\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hennepin County Library<\/a> has a wonderful digital collection (scroll to the bottom and look in the right-hand menu for Digital Resources).&nbsp; Of course, my favorite, is old photos.&nbsp; The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hclib.org\/pub\/search\/MplsPhotos\/\" target=\"_blank\">Minneapolis Photo Collection<\/a> has a variety of photos going back to the 1840s, although they do not indicate how many are currently digitized.&nbsp; A search on the keyword \u201cchurch\u201d returned 586 photos, so I\u2019d say the collection is pretty substantial.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><figure style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hclib.org\/pub\/search\/MplsPhotos\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"HCLibraryPhoto\" style=\"border-top: 0px; That\u2019s right, completely digitized and available for free.&nbsp; Oh, and did I mention they are searchable?<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"HCLibDirectories2\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"HCLibDirectories2\" src=\"http:\/\/julietarr.com\/genealogy\/blog\/images\/Genealogy-By-the-States--Week-32--Minnes_13F77\/HCLibDirectories2.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"228\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">City Directory Search returns listing of directories in which the term appears, and once viewing the directory, takes you to the first instance with highlights.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Additionally, they have digitized various Minneapolis <a href=\"http:\/\/box2.nmtvault.com\/Hennepin\/\" target=\"_blank\">high school yearbooks<\/a> during the period between 1890 and 1922.&nbsp; These are also free and searchable.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"HCLibYearbooks\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left: 0px; display: block; padding-right: 0px; margin-right: auto\" border=\"0\" alt=\"HCLibYearbooks\" src=\"http:\/\/julietarr.com\/genealogy\/blog\/images\/Genealogy-By-the-States--Week-32--Minnes_13F77\/HCLibYearbooks.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"368\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hennepin County Library Yearbook Collection<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They even have an oral history collection, which has some really neat interviews.<\/p>\n<p>If you have family from Minneapolis, I highly recommend you check out the Hennepin County Library\u2019s digital collection.&nbsp;
