{"id":449,"date":"2012-10-09T17:02:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-09T22:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/resources-for-illinois-genealogy-research\/"},"modified":"2013-07-05T12:44:13","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T17:44:13","slug":"resources-for-illinois-genealogy-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/resources-for-illinois-genealogy-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources for Illinois Genealogy Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>In September, I wrote about my <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/link-collection-to-various-genealogy-history-resources-online\/\"><em>Link Collection to Various Genealogy &amp; History Resources Online<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0 This collection is my <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.diigo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Diigo<\/em><\/a><em> bookmark library targeted at genealogy.\u00a0 I created a list for each state, as well as a few countries and various topics.\u00a0 There is also a list for general genealogy resources.\u00a0 Over the next week or so, I will highlight some of these lists.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"illinois\" alt=\"illinois\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/-cOuSgjH6QT8\/UHSe9FmPGaI\/AAAAAAAAG2A\/_l-3NCXr4i4\/illinois%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"150\" height=\"151\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/> Illinois Genealogy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the resources from my Illinois Genealogy list.\u00a0 Some are ones I use quite frequently and others are simply unique.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberdriveillinois.com\/departments\/archives\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Illinois State Archives<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Information on the holdings of the Illinois State Archives in Springfield, as well as the Illinois Regional Archives Depositories around the state.\u00a0 Also has several indexes for various resources.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alplm.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Library has tons of genealogical reference materials, not only for Illinois, but across the county.\u00a0 Also has an extensive newspaper collection of Illinois newspapers.\u00a0 From their website, you can visit the card catalog, see a listing of newspapers (with dates) in their collection, and take advantage of other genealogy tools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilhpa.hpa.state.il.us\/alplm\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Illinois Legacy Online<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Site is a little temperamental and you need to download a plug-in in order to view the images. Despite those things, there is some pretty neat stuff in the collection, especially if you&#8217;re researching Abraham Lincoln.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.historypin.com\/channels\/view\/6257182\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Peoria Historical Society on HistoryPin<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 The Peoria Historical Society, as of today, has 233 \u201cpins\u201d of historical images on HistoryPin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archives.archchicago.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Archdiocese of Chicago Archives &amp; Records<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Information on the record collections held by the Archdiocese of Chicago.\u00a0 Also includes a photo gallery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.idaillinois.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Illinois Digital Archives<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Various digital collections from the Illinois State Library and other Illinois repositories.\u00a0 Includes photos, newspapers, maps, and manuscripts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dig.lib.niu.edu\/ISHS\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Digital copies of the ISHS journal from 1950-2006.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagoancestors.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Chicago Ancestors<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Lots of good information for Chicago research.\u00a0 Includes map of Catholic churches, map of cemeteries, address conversion tools, and much more!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dig.lib.niu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Illinois Historical Digitization Projects<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 These are various digitization projects sponsored by Northern Illinois University.<\/p>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diigo.com\/list\/joodles77\/illinois\" target=\"_blank\">Illinois Genealogy<\/a> for the entire list of Illinois resources, or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diigo.com\/list\/joodles77\" target=\"_blank\">my library<\/a> to see my entire collection and other lists.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m always updating these resources, so be sure to check back regularly.\u00a0 To receive updates to the Illinois Genealogy list, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diigo.com\/list\/Joodles77\/illinois\/rss.xml\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe via RSS<\/a>.\u00a0 You can also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diigo.com\/rss\/user\/joodles77\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe to my entire collection<\/a> at for updates to all of my lists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"diigo-rss\" alt=\"diigo-rss\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-wwAY5od-ago\/UHSe9w8DCoI\/AAAAAAAAG2I\/2TaKXtS0Lys\/diigo-rss%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"477\" height=\"107\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In September, I wrote about my Link Collection to Various Genealogy &amp;
