{"id":448,"date":"2012-10-10T21:30:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-11T02:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/resources-for-genealogy-research-in-colonial-america\/"},"modified":"2013-07-05T12:43:54","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T17:43:54","slug":"resources-for-genealogy-research-in-colonial-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/resources-for-genealogy-research-in-colonial-america\/","title":{"rendered":"Resources for Genealogy Research in Colonial America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>In September, I wrote about my <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/link-collection-to-various-genealogy-history-resources-online\/\"><em>Link Collection to Various Genealogy &amp; History Resources Online<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0 This collection is my <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.diigo.com\/\"><em>Diigo<\/em><\/a><em> bookmark library targeted at genealogy.\u00a0 I created a list for each state, as well as a few countries and various topics.\u00a0 There is also a list for general genealogy resources.\u00a0 Over the next week or so, I will highlight some of these lists.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"mayflower\" alt=\"mayflower\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/--O1WRpX8RX4\/UHYvKlUMJWI\/AAAAAAAAG2k\/-SorevE6e_E\/mayflower%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"200\" height=\"158\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/> Colonial America Genealogy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These are a few of resources I find helpful for genealogy research in Colonial America.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foundersofhartford.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Society of the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Although this is a lineage society, their website has helpful information, including the list of the 163 Hartford founders with short biographies for each.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cambridgehistory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Cambridge Historical Society<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Has some digital collections as well as other resources and finding aids to their archives collection.\u00a0 Collections cover the colonial period up to the present.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/details\/foundersmassach01smitgoog\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Founders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. A Careful Research of the Earliest Records of Many of the Foremost Settlers of the New England Colony<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Digitized book available through <em>Internet Archive<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.progenealogists.com\/colonialwitches.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Witches in Colonial America<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 An article by Kory L. Meyerink, which includes a listing of early-American witches.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/details\/newyorkrevolution01statrich\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>New York in the Revolution as Colony and State<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Digitized book available through <em>Internet Archive<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dsdi1776.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Society of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Another lineage society website, this one has information on each of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mayflowerhistory.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Caleb Johnson&#8217;s Mayflower History<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Includes a list of Mayflower passengers as well as information related to pilgrim history and Mayflower research.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.histarch.uiuc.edu\/plymouth\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Plymouth Colony Archive Project<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 \u201cA collection of fully searchable texts, including: court records, colony laws, seventeenth century journals and memoirs, probate inventories, wills, town plans, maps, and fort plans;
