In September, I wrote about my <\/em>Link Collection to Various Genealogy & History Resources Online<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 This collection is my <\/em>Diigo<\/a><\/em> bookmark library targeted at genealogy.\u00a0 I created a list for each state, as well as a few countries and various topics.\u00a0 There is also a list for general genealogy resources.\u00a0 Over the next week or so, I will highlight some of these lists.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"iowa\" Iowa Genealogy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following is a list of my favorite Iowa resources.\u00a0\u00a0 I use many of them on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

Iowa Digital Library<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 This website is maintained by The University of Iowa Libraries.\u00a0 There are dozens of digital collections, including Women\u2019s Suffrage in Iowa<\/a>, Iowa Counties Historical Atlases<\/a>, Iowa Maps<\/a>, and Historic Iowa Children\u2019s Diaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Iowa WPA Graves Survey<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Tombstone transcriptions that were originally collected by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s.<\/p>\n

State Historical Society of Iowa Archive Holdings<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Information on the records they have. Also has a death index, by county, for deaths prior to 1935.<\/p>\n

Digital Archives of Cedar Rapids Public Library<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Free access to digital images of several area newspapers, including Des Moines and Marion, as well as Cedar Rapids city directories and telephone books.<\/p>\n

Iowa History Timeline<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Good timeline of events relative to Iowa history, from eReference Desk.<\/p>\n

Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion<\/strong> \u2013 Six volumes of books of Iowa regimental histories and soldiers related to the Civil War.<\/p>\n
