South Carolina for me.\u00a0 That being the case, I decided to just poke around the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmemory.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">South Carolina Digital Library (SCDL)<\/a>.\u00a0 SCDL is a portal to online digital collections held by institutions in South Carolina.\u00a0 There are a variety of collections including full-text books, maps, photographs, manuscripts, and newspapers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Taking a stroll through the various collection, I found something I\u2019d never seen before.\u00a0 A certificate of departure from the year 1812.\u00a0 This particular certificate is for Nathanial Heyward from Charleston, South Carolina.\u00a0 He was traveling from Liverpool to Boston, departing on 18 July 1812.\u00a0 This document is part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/lowcountrydigital.library.cofc.edu\/cdm4\/results.php?CISOOP1=exact&amp;CISOFIELD1=CISOSEARCHALL&amp;CISOROOT=\/HFF&amp;CISOBOX1=Heyward+and+Ferguson+family+papers%2C+1806-1923\" target=\"_blank\">Heyward and Ferguson Family Papers, 1806-1926 collection<\/a> held by the College of Charleston Libraries.\u00a0 You can see the original image <a connection to South Carolina, I was fascinated with all the neat stuff I found in the South Carolina Digital Library.\u00a0 I could have browsed for hours!\u00a0 If I ever do find South Carolina roots, this will certainly be one of the first places I check out, particularly because of the map collection.\u00a0 If you have South Carolina folks in your family tree, I highly recommend that you
