be educational in nature, focusing on topics related to resources, methodology, tools, etc.\u00a0 Although the challenge is complete, there are still some people who are finishing up and Alona, the <\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"l\" alt=\"l\" you are probably familiar with the Like button.\u00a0 You can \u201clike\u201d someone\u2019s status update, a link they share, or photos they\u2019ve uploaded.\u00a0 Even better than that, you can \u201clike\u201d various Facebook pages created by companies, organizations, and people.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of genealogy, this could include pages related to your favorite software, pages for genealogical and historical societies, or pages created for various genealogy-related events.\u00a0 There are even pages for a variety of genealogy topics, such as community pages created by FamilySearch related to a specific state\/country where people can \u201cgather\u201d to help each other out.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Liking\u201d a Facebook page is basically like \u201cfriending\u201d or \u201cfollowing\u201d friends, family, colleagues, or associates on Facebook.\u00a0 When you like a page, their status updates and such will appear in your feed, just like your friends\u2019 statuses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"LikeButton\" alt=\"LikeButton\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-jdqpPR6dig4\/UVn_paOIcMI\/AAAAAAAAIdc\/HwPf-VJH-vs\/LikeButton%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"77\" height=\"38\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/>Why might you want to \u201clike\u201d various genealogy-related pages on Facebook?\u00a0 Here are a few reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep up-to-date on your favorite societies, products, and events.<\/li>\n<li>Meet new people who share your love of genealogy.<\/li>\n<li>Get help or help others.<\/li>\n<li>Show your support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are some examples of updates I saw in my feed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An related to lighthouses, posted by the Stonington Historical Society.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Stonington\" alt=\"Stonington\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-ZjvYDtm9fVs\/UVn_pxK2WxI\/AAAAAAAAIds\/EweCtEaHYTw\/Stonington%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"452\" height=\"463\" border=\"0\" \/><\/li>\n<li>News about a documentary project that Maureen Taylor is working on, posted by Family Tree Magazine.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"FTM\" alt=\"FTM\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-McMFucQ0wP4\/UVn_qceXKGI\/AAAAAAAAIdw\/SWXROhP9E_g\/FTM%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"452\" height=\"265\" border=\"0\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are plenty of companies and societies on Facebook that have an active presence and share relevant and timely information.\u00a0 I started to collect bookmarks for any society I found with an active Facebook page in my Diigo bookmarks, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diigo.com\/list\/joodles77\/societies-using-social-media\" target=\"_blank\">you can find here<\/a> (it also includes societies using other forms of social media such as blogs).<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of my favorite genealogy-related Facebook pages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ConnecticutHistoryorg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ILGenSoc\" target=\"_blank\">Illinois State Genealogical Society<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ItalyGenealogy?ref=ts&amp;fref=ts\" target=\"_blank\">Italy Genealogy Research<\/a> (FamilySearch community page)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FGSconference\" target=\"_blank\">2013 FGS Conference<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HistoricNewEngland\" target=\"_blank\">Historic New England<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/chicagohistory\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago History
