{"id":21,"date":"2013-01-11T22:43:00","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T22:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/make-a-commitment-to-yourself-participate-in-the-family-history-writing-challenge-next-month\/"},"modified":"2013-07-03T16:41:22","modified_gmt":"2013-07-03T21:41:22","slug":"make-a-commitment-to-yourself-participate-in-the-family-history-writing-challenge-next-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/make-a-commitment-to-yourself-participate-in-the-family-history-writing-challenge-next-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Make a Commitment to Yourself, Participate in the Family History Writing Challenge Next Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-VpyiZtBUV9c\/UPCVjVPEO5I\/AAAAAAAAHbw\/lsi4U24zzr8\/s1600-h\/commitment%25255B4%25255D.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"commitment\" alt=\"commitment\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/-BPeWseShCd4\/UPCVkV6hUsI\/AAAAAAAAHb4\/4VU1TPIMr1I\/commitment_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"240\" height=\"188\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>For the third year in a row, Lynn Palermo (a.k.a. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thearmchairgenealogist.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Armchair Genealogist<\/a>) is hosting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thearmchairgenealogist.com\/2013\/01\/the-family-history-writing-challenge.html\" target=\"_blank\">Family History Writing Challenge<\/a>.\u00a0 This 28-day challenge begins on February 1 and ends on the February 28.<\/p>\n<p>By participating in the challenge, you are essentially making a commitment to yourself to write x-number of words each day about your family history.\u00a0 It\u2019s a fun way to set a goal and work toward that goal each day during the month of February.\u00a0 What\u2019s even better is that you will get tips and support along the way.\u00a0 And because it\u2019s a \u201ccommunity\u201d event, there\u2019s also a sense of camaraderie knowing that others are right there with you, sharing in your successes and, yes, sometimes your frustrations.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This year, because of my busy schedule, I\u2019m going to <strong>pledge to write 200 words each day<\/strong>.\u00a0 Last year I had a plan for what I was going to do, but I didn\u2019t really stick to it.\u00a0 So for this year, there\u2019s no plan.\u00a0 I\u2019m just going to write 200 words on whatever aspect of my family history I feel like writing about that day.\u00a0 It may seem like a very disjointed approach, especially if you know me and how I work.\u00a0 But sometimes it\u2019s the best approach for the creative process.\u00a0 And because I plan to write haphazardly (even though it makes me cringe!), I\u2019m going to start using <a href=\"http:\/\/literatureandlatte.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scrivener<\/a> so I can at least manage my jaunts and tangents in some organized manner.\u00a0 (Too bad the <a href=\"http:\/\/gwenhernandez.com\/scrivener-online-classes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scrivener class<\/a> I signed up for doesn\u2019t start until February 19.)<\/p>\n<p>So what about you?\u00a0 Will you make a 28-day commitment to write about your family history?\u00a0 I\u2019d love to hear about your plans, so please leave me a comment or a link to your blog post about the challenge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the third year in a row, Lynn Palermo (a.k.a.
