{"id":16,"date":"2013-02-22T03:58:00","date_gmt":"2013-02-22T03:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/family-history-writing-challenge-week-3\/"},"modified":"2013-07-02T23:42:18","modified_gmt":"2013-07-03T04:42:18","slug":"family-history-writing-challenge-week-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/family-history-writing-challenge-week-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Family History Writing Challenge \u2013 Week 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"FHWC2013\" alt=\"FHWC2013\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/-TIcAJeZf-io\/USbsyhLlrGI\/AAAAAAAAIJs\/PzpQ6WXxe8U\/FHWC2013%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" align=\"right\" border=\"0\" \/>I was a little bit more on target this week, managing to write five out of seven days.\u00a0 Here\u2019s how the week went.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, February 15, I drafted my <a title=\"Surname Saturday \u2013 Garrison (Ontario \/ Michigan \/ Illinois)\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/surname-saturday-garrison-ontario-michigan-illinois\/\" target=\"_blank\">Surname Saturday post<\/a>, which was 492 words and took about a half hour.<\/p>\n<p>Hubby worked on Saturday, giving me a chance to get some writing done.\u00a0 I decided to write about my second great-granduncle, Henry Schwartz, following up with what I did in Week 2 on his brother John (my second great-grandfather).\u00a0 I still haven\u2019t decided what to do with these write-ups, but I did use it as an opportunity to play around with Scrivener a bit.\u00a0 That write-up was 492 words and took about an hour.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I snuck in some writing on Sunday and prepared my <a title=\"Genealogy By the States \u2013 Week 7 \u2013 Maryland\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/genealogy-by-the-states-week-7-maryland\/\" target=\"_blank\">Genealogy By the States post for Maryland<\/a>, writing about my husband\u2019s (possible) eighth great-grandfather, Johann Bohn.\u00a0 The post ended up being 680 words and took an hour-and-a-half to write.<\/p>\n<p>Trying to stay ahead of my schedule, I prepared my Surname Saturday post for this coming weekend.\u00a0 It was 612 words and took 45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Other priorities got the best of me on Tuesday and Wednesday, so no \u201cchallenge\u201d writing got done.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I took some time to write down what I had learned about a nephew (that popped up out of nowhere) of my third great-grandfather, James Mulligan, in hopes of figuring out what the connection is.\u00a0 Based on what I\u2019ve found so far, I\u2019m thinking that it\u2019s a son of a sister of James.\u00a0 This write-up was 298 words.<\/p>\n<p>So for Week 3, I wrote a total of 2,574 words (weekly goal was 1,400).\u00a0 To date, my word count is 8,730, which is well over where I should be (4,200 @ 200 words\/day).\u00a0 I have a crazy schedule for the rest of the month so I \u2018m not sure how well I will do in Week 4.\u00a0 Hopefully I\u2019ll be able to get in a little writing each day.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re nearing the finish line!\u00a0 Only one week left to go.\u00a0 How have you done so far?\u00a0 Do you plan to continue trying to write a little each day after the challenge is over?\u00a0 Drop me a note and let me know!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was a little bit more on target this week, managing to write five out of seven days.\u00a0 Here\u2019s how the week went.
