{"id":1102,"date":"2009-01-02T17:34:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-02T23:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/long-lost-but-not-forgotten-cousins\/"},"modified":"2013-07-12T22:18:44","modified_gmt":"2013-07-13T03:18:44","slug":"long-lost-but-not-forgotten-cousins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/long-lost-but-not-forgotten-cousins\/","title":{"rendered":"Long Lost (But Not Forgotten) Cousins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a whirlwind of events and an emotional roller coaster for me over the past several weeks.<\/p>\n<p>About a week or so before I left for Arizona, I got an email from my cousin, Chris, who I have not seen, nor heard from since 1996 when we were in college.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The irony here is that I blogged about this briefly for a Smile for the Camera post, <a title=\"Let Bygones be Bygones\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/let-bygones-be-bygones\/\" target=\"_blank\">Let Bygones Be Bygones<\/a>.\u00a0 Basically, there is some sort of tiff between my mom and her brother.\u00a0 I remained close with two of my cousins (Craig and Chris) up until I went to college.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had no contact with them since, until now.<\/p>\n<p>Back in November, I sent a letter to my uncle asking for help with our family tree.\u00a0 I know he had been working on it on and off for many years and was hoping to reconnect with him through this common tie.\u00a0 Moreover, I hoped to reconnect with the whole family.\u00a0 I still have not heard from him.<\/p>\n<p>My mom, knowing that I sent the letter, thought she&#8217;d try by sending my aunt and uncle a Christmas card (note, mom had been sending them for years and gave up since he would not respond, so this was the first in several years).\u00a0 I guess my aunt mentioned to Chris that mom sent the card.\u00a0 Chris then proceeded to Google me (yes, I&#8217;ve been Googled!), and found my blog.<\/p>\n<p>I had been on the phone with my mom for awhile and after we got off, I checked my email.\u00a0 I saw the name, and fell over.\u00a0 I read the email and called mom back and told her the news.\u00a0 We were both very excited to have heard from Chris.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve both been emailing with Chris ever since, sharing stories and photos.\u00a0 Chris even made a DVD of his junior high graduation and sent it to mom (see <a title=\"Reminiscing With Mom\" href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.julietarr.com\/blog\/reminiscing-with-mom\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reminiscing With Mom<\/a> for more details).\u00a0 I&#8217;m in the process of putting together a CD for him with all the photos I have as well as our genealogy.<\/p>\n<p>After I returned from Arizona, I found another email in my inbox.\u00a0 This time it was Craig.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t hear back from him yet, but I hope to soon.<\/p>\n<p>I guess sometimes you gotta stir the pot to make things happen.\u00a0 I am very thankful to have reconnected with Chris and Craig, as we were all very close as kids.\u00a0 We have many memories and I hope that we will make some more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a whirlwind of events and an emotional roller coaster for me over the past several weeks.
