I’ve been hearing rumors that a new version of Legacy Family Tree will be released later this year.  In fact, Geoff Rasmussen will be discussing it at SCGS Jamboree later today in a demo called “What’s New in Legacy Family Tree 8.”  (Boy, I wish that session was being streamed live!!).  While I have no details, I do look forward to the Legacy 8 release.  In the meantime, I thought I share a few of my “wish list” items.

Genealogy education on-demand! I received the following email yesterday announcing a new offering from Legacy Family Tree.  They have created a new website, dedicated to their webinars, and now you can become a member and access any archived webinar (and the handout) at anytime during your membership.  They are offering memberships for an annual fee of $49.95, or you can subscribe monthly for $9.95/month. The live webinars are still free to attend, and the new website is where you will find information on all upcoming webinars.

I just LOVE the Families app (Android, iOS; $15).  It’s basically a mobile app for Legacy Family Tree (update: both versions 7 and 8), which is the genealogy software that I use.  The interface is very similar to Legacy so there’s not a big learning curve.  You do need to download Families Sync (free) and install it on your computer in order to transfer the files between your computer and device.

My wonderful husband bought me a Kindle Fire for Christmas even though I already had a Kindle Keyboard.  In a few short months I’ve found several ways to use my Kindle Fire for genealogy.

Just got word that Legacy FT version 7.4 will integrate with FamilySearch.  Version 7.4 should be available sometime this month.  Read more at their website.
