A few days ago, the Dallas Genealogical Society announced the winners of the 2012 Writing Contest that was held earlier this year.  Below is the press release that was issued. As soon as I get the details for the 2013 contest, I will post them on this blog.

The 2014 NGS Family History Conference will be held in Richmond, Virginia, May 7-10, 2014.  I received an email earlier today announcing they will be accepting lecture proposals from speakers beginning January 1, 2013. The email in its entirety is included below.

Today I stumbled upon another orphan photo blog, Unclaimed Ancestors.  This blog, started earlier this year in April is put together by Jodi Bash. Jodi’s mission is “connecting old photos and memorabilia with the families searching for them.”  Kudos to her for starting her blog! And, since I have found several blog similar to Who Will Tell Their Story?, I have started a page for Other Orphan Photo Blogs, which can be found in the menu bar at the top of this blog.

Earlier today, the Illinois State Genealogical Society (ISGS) announced that registration is now open for the 2013 Webinar series!  This year’s lineup has something for everyone, from beginners to experts, and everyone in between. Webinars are a fantastic way for genealogists to learn more about research, methodology, records, and more.  ISGS offers the live broadcast of their webinars to the public for free on the second Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM Central.  ISGS members have access to all the webinar recordings after they’re presented live.

I received an email yesterday, from the Southern California Genealogical Society (SCGS), informing me that registration for the 2013 Jamboree Extension Webinar Series is now open.  SCGS holds two live webinars each month and they have a great lineup for 2013.

Big announcement today from the Illinois Genealogical Society (ISGS).  In less than six months, ISGS received $10,000 in contributions from individuals and organizations, which ISGS then matched, making it $20,000.  Ancestry.com will then match that amount, making it a total of $40,000.  What an amazing job!

I received the following press release earlier today from Findmypast.com.  Looks like an interesting collection of records.  Not sure if it will help me out, but perhaps it will help out one of my readers.  I will post an example shortly.
