Wow! I just received an email from the State Historical Society of Iowa explaining that the back issues of The Annals of Iowa are available online and are searchable. I am not a member of this organization and I was able to access everything I found in the archives (I could spend days checking this out!!). It looks like they have everything dating back to the publication’s start in 1863 all the way through 2014 (there appears to be a gap between 1884 and 1893, perhaps publication seized for a time?). From what I gather, the current year will remain a print publication available through a subscription or a Heritage Circle membership with SHSI. Below is the announcement I received.
SHSI is delighted to announce back issues of The Annals of Iowa (1863-1884, 1893-2014) are now available on-line in a fully searchable format.
The Annals is a quarterly, peer-reviewed scholarly journal of history published by the State Historical Society of Iowa beginning in 1863. Now, researchers, students and others interested in back issues of The Annals can review entire issues or search for keywords using the new on-line service.
Meanwhile, current issues continue to be printed. The Spring 2015 issue focuses on the experiences of working women and labor issues in Cedar Rapids at the turn of the 20th Century, and is expected to be in mailboxes soon.
