Week 23 Prompt: Namesake
This week’s 52 Ancestors theme is “Namesake.” I don’t really know how many of my ancestors got their names. Some followed naming patterns, such as first son named for father’s father and second son named for mother’s father. Others seemed to just randomly pick names out of the air. One thing I do know, is how I got my name.
My parents’ names both begin with the letter J (as do my paternal grandparents). So, my parents decided to go with a J name. My mom liked the name Julie, which was the name of a character on her favorite soap opera Days of Our Lives. That’s right. My namesake is a fictional character in the land of fictional Salem—Julie (Olson) Williams, portrayed by Susan Seaforth Hayes. The character has been on the show since its premier in 1965, although Susan did not come in to the role until 1968 and still plays the character today. If only I could age as beautifully and gracefully as her 🙂
