All-Star Lineup at DuPage County Genealogical Society Conference, March 12, 2016

The annual conference of the DuPage County Genealogical Society (DCGS) will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Naperville, Illinois, and features an All-Star lineup of speakers:  Judy G. Russell, Lisa A. Alzo, Antje Petty, and Katherine R. Willson.  Here’s a look at the lectures:

Registration is $55 for DCGS members and $65 for non-members.  Lunch is included in the registration fee.  There will also be genealogy vendors and door prizes.

Paula Stuart-Warren, Featured Speaker at Illinois State Genealogical Society 2015 Fall Conference in October

The annual fall conference of the Illinois State Genealogical Society (ISGS) will be held Friday, October 23 to Saturday, October 24 in Oak Lawn, Illinois.  Paula Stuart-Warren is the featured speaker and will present the following lectures:

  • Genealogy Goldmine: Records of Old Settlers Organizations
  • The WPA Era: What it Created for Genealogists
  • Finding & Using Manuscripts and Special Collections Repositories
  • Midwestern & Plains States Level Census Records

In addition to these lectures, many other topics will be covered by speakers including Tony Burroughs, Thomas MacEntee, Ruth Ann Abels Hager, Carol Chandler, Grace Dumelle, George Findlen, Janis Minor Forté, Jane G. Haldeman, and John C. Heider.  Geoffrey Baer is the guest speaker for the Friday evening dinner and reception.

George G. Morgan, Featured Speaker at Fox Valley Genealogical Society Conference in September 2015

The annual conference of the Fox Valley Genealogical Society (FVGS) will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 in Naperville, Illinois.  George G. Morgan is the featured speaker and will present the following lectures:

  • Locating and Accessing Published Genealogies Online
  • Five Reasons the Records Aren’t in the Courthouse (and Where to Look)
  • Alternate Records You May Never Have Considered
  • Sidestep Genealogy

Registration is $40 for FVGS members, $45 for non-members, and $50 for everyone after September 10.  Lunch is included in the registration fee.  There will also be genealogy vendors and door prizes.

Registration Open for 2nd Annual New York Family History Conference

NYSFHC Logo 2015I received this press release last week regarding the 2nd Annual New York Family History Conference that will take place in Syracuse, New York, September 17–19, 2015.  Registration opened on February 11, and the early bird rates will remain in effect through May 31.  Details below.

The second New York State Family History Conference will take place in Syracuse, NY,
September 17–19, 2015 and bring together hundreds of researchers
from across the country who want to learn about their New York roots.

NEW YORK, NY, February 11—The Central New York Genealogical Society and the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society are cosponsoring the 2015 New York Family History Conference. This year’s event will also be a Federation of Genealogical Societies Regional Conference.

FGS Shows Support of Alzheimer’s Research

Tazewell County (IL) Genealogical & Historical Society’s Annual Conference, Featuring Michael Lacopo

Michael Lacopo will be in my neck of the woods this October for Tazewell County (IL) Genealogical & Historical Society’s annual “Harvest Time for Genealogists” one-day conference.  And by my neck of the woods, I mean, like, up the road from me…nice!  The event will take place on October 4, 2014, from 9 AM until 3 PM at the TCGHS library, located at 719 N. 11th Street in Pekin, Illinois. 

Michael is back for a second year and will present the following lectures:

  • Using Tax Records for Genealogical Problem Solving
  • More Than the Census – Our Families Did Exist Between Those 10-Year Intervals
  • Using DNA Testing to Further Your Family Tree: A Primer (2 hours)

Cost is $30 and includes lunch.
